About principal

Principal Bindu Sehgal has been associated with this Delhi Public School (DPS), Vasant Kunj .

Message -

These words truly encapsulate her dedication and vision. Mrs. Bindu Sehgal, the Principal of the institution, is an academician who leaves behind a tale of perseverance, professionalism and progress. After joining DPS, R.K.Puram in July 1983, she worked there as TGT (Chemistry) for more than ten years before becoming PGT (Chemistry) at DPS, Vasant Kunj in Oct. 1995. At DPS, Vasant Kunj, she became HOD (Chemistry) in April 2000 and Senior Mistress in Feb 2003.

She took over as Vice Principal (Offg.) at this institution in Sept., 2004. Her role in building up the academic faculty in Science stream at the school has been enormous. As an educationist, she sees as her goal the development of scientific temper and adaptability in her learner group.

Prudent, precise and a person of few words, she has contributed immensely to the development of DPS Vasant Kunj into an outstanding institution with an established focus on inculcation of discipline and professionalism in academic training of students. She has provided a balanced emphasis on academics, extra curricular activities and also training for competitive examinations with a view to make the students intellectually competent, physically sound and socially useful individuals.

Co-curricular Activities

Students of Class XI and XII may take Science, Commerce or Humanities course, each of which cover 5 subjects.

The Science Course: English, Physics and Chemistry are the compulsory subjects for the students .

The Medical Stream : This has Biology as the fourth subject while the fifth subject can be Maths or Psychology.

The Non Medical Stream : This has fourth subject as Mathematics and the fifth subject can be Computer Science or Economics.

The Commerce Course: English, Accountancy, Business Studies and Economics are compulsory subjects. For the fifth subject, students have a choice of Mathematics / Psychology.

The Humanities Course: English is a compulsory subject. Other choices are :

- Economics

- History / Fine Arts / Geography / Maths

- Political Science / Fashion Design

- Psychology

(Physical Education can be opted as the sixth subject in all the streams in class XII only.)

The class XII course culminates in the All India Senior Secondary Examinations, which is also conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education.

The school sends teams for basketball, football (soccer), tennis and cricket tournaments, and has facilities for volleyball. Sports training is conducted after school hours.

The football team has won, and finished as first runners-up in several national, zonal and inter-school tournaments, including the ONGC Cup, the Inter-DPS tournament and the ESPN-Star Sports Junior Premier League. Students have represented Delhi State and India under 13 and under 14, and have been selected for the India under 16 football team.[4][5][6]

The school basketball team has finished amongst the medal positions in tournaments across the country, and several have played for their states at the national level.

The school is headed by the Student Council, a body of student representatives headed by the Head Girl and the Head Boy.

Under the aegis of the DPS Society, the Council for Environmental Education for Children (colloquially CEEC or Environment Council) was formed at the school in 1994. Today, the CEEC has more than 100 members. Students have participated in activities with organizations such as The Energy and Resources Institute, World Wildlife Fund, Development Alternatives and Kids for Tigers. The council conducts air-monitoring and water-monitoring workshops annually, and has banned the use of plastic bags in school. A team from the Council also participated in the 'Greening with Goethe' Environment Conference, Bangalore in December 2011, where it received a commendation from the group of scientists from both Germany and India.

The school's computer club, the Code Warriors, was established in 1997. The Code Warriors have won over 950 individual awards and 30 team trophies, including reputed events such as Exun, FORCE Fest and Dynamix.[2] In 2001, eight Code Warriors cleared the National Informatics Olympiad in the Delhi State, with one going on to represent India in the International Informatics Olympiad, held in Korea.

Between 2004 and 2008, the school sent a delegation every year to Global Classrooms: Delhi Public School MUN, which was hosted by Delhi Public School, RK Puram in New Delhi. The school won the coveted Secretary General's Award for the Best Overall Delegation at the Global Classrooms: Delhi Public School MUN in 2006, 2007 and 2008.[3] Students from the school have been selected on scholarships for six-member and ten-member delegations representing the country at international conferences, including the UNA-USA Model UN Conference held at the UN Headquarters in New York City, and the UNA-USA Pacific Rim International MUN in Los Angeles.

In 2004, the school established a Consumer Care Council (3Cs), responsible for spreading information on consumer awareness rights, duties, responsibilities and acts against malpractices. In 2010, the Consumer Care Council organized CONFEST 2010, a consumer awareness festival for local schools.

The school also has a Quiz Club, which participates in inter-school and inter-zonal tournaments across the country. The club also participates in the annual Japan Quiz, and won a scholarship to a quizzing tournament in Japan in 2008 by winning the Japan Quiz.



    Delhi Public School Vasant Kunj is affiliated with the Central Board for Secondary Education (CBSE). The school offers a common curriculum up to Grade 10, along with the option of foreign language. In Grade 11 and Grade 12, the school requires students to choose one of three 5-subject streams: Science (with Computer Science or Economics or Biology or Psychology or Informative Practices or Fashion Studies), Commerce, or Humanities.

    One of India's brighest student, Sarthak Aggarwal, graduated from DPS VK in 2014 with a remarkable aggregate of 99.6%.

    The school is considered among the top schools in India, always ranked within the top 50 by several publications.
